I am sped certified, but would NEVER be a sped self contained teacher just for those reasons alone. Guess I'm selfish. ;)
Although, with this group this year, I wouldn't put it beyond them to bit or pee on me. It's only October and I've sent more kids to the office then I have ever done in my career before.
oh, BTW, our lifeskills teacher is physcially being worn down by her students. I take one look at her and REFUSE to ever do self contained. They kids injure her on a daily basis. She even had to have shoulder surgery from lifting one wheel chair bound student who constantly goes into violent seizures.
But, it's also the principal support that make a difference. Our principal KNOWS what this is doing to her, but won't let her take any other position. Probably because the said teacher can't say NO when asked to do something.
