but really....i'm still confused. is it pretty much true that he's not really him? cuz that's really shitty. i work in social work and I felt drawn to him because of his heartbreaking stories and the fact that's he's overcome so much. I mean I'll still read the books, let's face it, they are really good, but I really could do without the lies.
I can't really keep up with all the meia right now unfortunitally (Still have about 3 or more articles to read). I still haven't seen an article that convinced me yet.
I know where the confusion stems from. It's like you want to believe he is who he says he is, but everything points in the opposite direction.
The more I read the sadder I get. I really hope that none of the articles are true, but since he's so silent about all of this and it would be so incredibly easy to set the record straight, I can't help but think the worst.
...There's still a part of me that wants to believe in JT.
I think it is a hoax. That seems to be the general consensus. There doesn't seem to be much (or anything, really) that I've read that makes me think otherwise, and I've been reading a lot about it.
Cherry Vanilla, you made me laugh. :) This is Nancy and, of course, I exist. Just as JT exists. Trust in that. Read Shirley's diary entry. She says it so very well. Keep the faith and don't get pulled into a witch hunt, as this whole thing has surely become. :)
Shirley's entry: I suppose you will have read all the controversy about JT in the press. Suffice to say that the books remain a marvel and whoever wrote them is still a genius whether they are a man, woman or wilderbeast.
It's perfectly fair that people are confused and up in arms about it but if you have read the books and understand them, why on earth would you ever assume that the person who wrote them was your regular, 9-5,cookie -cutter joe?
i think the strangest part of this for me is the sudden loss of somone i thought existed. i cannot really look at photos of JT (or savannah or whomever it may be) and not see them as being of JT Leroy. It was odd seeing the photos of Savannah Knoop sans wig and glasses. I wonder how Asia Argento factors into all of this. I first heard of JT in a beautiful article on the two of them in Another Magazine.

I felt like that until I saw JT/Savannah at a reading last year and started to feel very uneasy...I just couldn't reconcile that person as the person who wrote the books. It didn't make sense to me but I couldn't pinpoint why. I remember thinking that Speedie/Laura/Emily seemed so much more in control, so much more into it.
I'm curious as to whether Asia knows the truth or not, too.
i have been a fan of "JT"'s for while...myself3000January 12 2006, 19:08:27 UTC
and all of the lies are really upsetting me. i still will love the books written by "JT", but i am dissapointed about all of the manipulation and deception around the writer...
it is sad that an inspirational character and human being can't exist in reality and people have to pretend and lie to create one...
i have been obsessed with the many articles written about it so far, and this one is very informative.
I've been having these weird, but very appropriate dreams of JT and Bush in bed together. Except I always expected Bush to be full of shit, so he couldn't ever disappoint me.

In that photo "Savannah" looks incredibly like the JT I briefly met in April last year. I was so convinced she was a girlish boy, I'm amazed!
