A selfish, but still valid, reason (yet another) why I'm hurt...

It occurs to me, too, that the JT LeRoy hoax means it will probably be more difficult in the future for other writers to get published in that genre... especially young ones who claim to be (and in my case, actually are) survivors of childhood poverty and abuse. My novel has just been thoroughly invalidated. It's not fair. :-(

It hasn't been invalidated. Just because JT LeRoy isn't real does not mean that real survivors will not be heard. My friend, the source of JT's work will even tell you this. After all, who is Jeremiah? A figure from the Bible who thought no one would listen to him just because he was a child. The Lord put it into his head that it was foolish to think such things, and Jeremiah was successful in spreading his message despite age or other short comings ( ... )
