Terminator Yahoo Group

May 08, 2006 23:27

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this. I was just wondering, where did the Terminator group go? It probably shut down. However, before, the moderators were quite adamant about not closing the Yahoo group. Perhaps I missed something?

Thanks.

I was wondering a while ago too. The last email I have saved from theirs if from Febuary 28th, so I think it was some time mid. March. It was really weird, suddenly I wasn't getting any more emails from Kai :(

The owner, Kai, deleted the group. There were people using it to gather info and post said info elsewhere maliciously so he pulled the plug in order to prevent that.

It was deleted the first week of March. I understand why Kai did it - it must have been a difficult decision after all his hard work - but I really miss it. I'd been on there nearly four years.

Any other ex-Termies still around?

I lurked far more than I posted there, due to the fact that I flat out hate email-based communities, such as Yahoo groups. I often gritted my teeth and considered offering to set up a phpBB message board instead.

For some reason, Yahoo ate my account a good while before March, and valiant efforts to restore it were futile, so I lost touch.

Yeah, I never subscribed to the emails, I just read them all online at Yahoo. I found that much easier to manage.

The last few months were full of heated debate about the JT hoax, until most people got bored and started talking about more interesting matters.

I think Yahoo groups look terrible, messy and hard to read. I remember headdesking violently because there finally was a group I couldn't resist joining, despite my enormous issues with the structure.

It was nice seeing such a supportive and friendly online community. Too bad there were rotten apples in the basket.

It was probably deleted because JT LEROY IS A FUCKING FAKE!

Obviously not.

The group discussed a lot more than JT, and had done for years. It was decided to keep it going as something that had started because of JT's books, but had moved on.

Thanks, your comment remided me that I've been meaning to limit anonymous commenting.

I was on the Termie list for a long time. I miss it, as the majority of people were kind and fascinating.

Perhaps I'll contact a few of the regulars and see if they would be interested in starting up a similar group for those who miss the Yahoo list.
