a bit of truth.

If these guys literally get away with murder, torture, etc., and are given a free pass, this country is over. Seriously, we need the Spanish to indict our war criminals? Rule of law, hello?

It's hilarious now that the memos are out that there is even a discussion about whether prosecutions should go forward. It is the law to ( Read more... )

This bothers me.
I think more from your linked article The Truth About Consequences:... than the commentary here.

This notion of X party being better than Y party, and if we only get the right people into office everything will be okay. It's a partisan ¿shell game? It ignores the nature of the system, or perhaps human nature.
Where there is a systematic disparity in power, almost inevitably at some point, it will be abused.
Of course the proposed solution is we just need to get the opposing party to keep them in check. Never mind any implication that may bring about in the future.

As a politician I'll condemn the other guy all day long, but when you get to actually doing something you have to realize your setting president for any opposing witch hunt or smack down which might come down upon you, as well as stoking the fires to fuel such.

Politicians get away with murder all the time. It maybe getting worse, but this is more an old trend, than a new shift.

The article I thought was so-so but had some good things to say. There is a qualitative difference between conservative and liberal mindsets. You did go read The Authoritarians right?

I have to wonder if it's not made up of some parts envy and perceived revenge.

Sure, sometimes. Not this time imo.

Name a president who didn't try and get away with something?

Miles of difference between blowjobs from interns and institutionalized torture. Of course they all try to get away with stuff, and often do, but is it too much to ask that illegal torture camps don't make the front page of the Times for five years?

What are we going to do, really?

Oooooh, GOOD QUESTION. We should all be thinking about that one.

No. Is there some reason to?
It looks like some pseudo-psychological rationalization for why right-ists are evil, while left-ists are 'fair-minded' and 'calm'.
Both parties are Authoritarians.
I might go as far as to say the left has this built in as a key feature in their philosophy, but that's happenstance, as both bully with roughly the same degree of viciousness, given time/context, and the right's just giving lips service to the supposed'leave people alone'/small gov't aspect of their philosophy anyway.

IF Obama is going to shut down the illegal torture camps and not merely out source it to either other secret facilities or hand these people over to ( ... )
