RECS: The Best Inception Stories You're Not Reading

These stories all suffer from a distinct lack of positive reviews. That is just criminal.

  • kink fill by Anon
  • Dominic Cobb entered the world blue and frantic, tiny legs and arms akimbo, his own umbilical cord wrapped snug around his neck.

  • take arms against a sea of troubles by usingmyoxygen
  • You don't know what you expected yourself to do, but it's a little numbing when all that comes out is a plain "okay". You listen more than you talk until there's a silence where you know he's expecting some form of reaction. You look at the walls for a moment and wonder how many people have cried in here. You shift in your seat and wonder how many people have sat right where you are and gotten the same news.

  • Skin and Bones by fidelitii
  • Eames remembers a night a long time ago, when Arthur was still Arthur, when he was healthy and they spent hours in bed together on that cold windy night, with nothing but a porno movie and their own yawing bodies.

  • Say It Right by pumpkin_bread
  • Once Emily’s eyes have shut and Arthur’s sure her breathing has evened out, he shifts her tiny body in his arms and lays her, as carefully as he can, on the bed, pulling her blankets up to her chin (tucks them under her sides and shoulders, just for good measure), and finally, with a weary sigh, pushes away from the edge of the bed for what feels like the first time in ages.

  • It wasn't Paradise, but it was Home by Anon
  • It would be 'A Chorus Line', of course. A show he liked too much to refuse on artistic grounds (were this 'Cats', he would not be here, Senior Showcase be damned), but still required him to spend his evenings in this dingy room, sorting through piles of knitwear, lycra, and spandex. Why couldn't they have done Les Mis or Sweeney? The theatre department owned piles of period clothing Arthur's hands were itching to tailor.

  • One Bullet at a Time by Anon
  • Technically, the job was a success. Technically. But if you counted the ensuing escape, the part where the criminals in a story line made their grand (or discreet, take your pick) exit, and if you counted surviving the job itself uninjured as part of the definition of a success - then this particular job has been nothing but a spectacular failure.

  • She Wakes Up by safaiagem
  • Ariadne stands at the baggage claim and watches the bags go by. Moments earlier she had watched Cobb meet Miles and walk away into freedom. Now she is left watching the baggage carousel and wonders what she is supposed to do next.

  • These Are The Things by comeback
  • These are the things Arthur knows: His name. How he got here. That he's going to die. Soon.

  • Keep it to Yourself by xpenismightierx
  • It had happened two weeks before the wedding. Arthur had gotten an incomprehensible phone call well past midnight. He couldn’t make out anything Mal said through her tears, but he did manage to find out where she was. He made the thirty minute trip in fifteen and had Mal back in his apartment before the hour was up.

  • Ascent from the Sea by muselives
  • She wills herself not to look for the others. For this job, they were a team but only for the job. They will scatter now and disappear. She doesn't have the means to hold them. She has to do this on her own.

  • If Only You Could See The Stranger Next To Me by simplysketched
  • The sickening sound of flesh striking flesh fills the room. Somewhere in his mind, the smallest of parts, begs him to stop. The rest of his mind ignores the thought and continues lunging and attacking. His companion tries to restrain him, tries to appeal to that one small, sane part of his brain.

  • kink fill by Anon
  • He shifts, and pain ignites like wildfire throughout his core, deep into his chest, and his breathing is suddenly stifled with a mouthful of blood. He has been out for sometime---hours, perhaps, he cannot remember.

  • Ripples by Anon
  • When Eames is questioned on the memorable moments of his life in mindcrime and thinks back on the past decade spent tripping in and out of people's heads, he finds that the most amazing moments weren't within the dreams -for all their logic-defying splendour- but in his recollections of the little snatches of reality that drifted in between.

  • kink fill by rhizomatics
  • It had been forty-eight hours and four countries since Eames had a proper night of sleep, but when Arthur finally holstered his gun, leaned back in the chair, and asked if Eames wanted to get a drink, there was zero chance that he would say no.

  • Maryam by scrie
  • When Yusuf is born, his parents don’t put a lot of thought into choosing a name for him.

  • The World As We Know It by scrie
  • Arthur thinks it’s really funny (in accordance to his own special sense of humor) that after decades of authors and film directors envisioning the Apocalypse as a nuclear disaster or some form of biochemical warfare, it’s a nuclear disaster and a form of biochemical warfare that finally bring it about.

  • Projecting by semmy
  • Dream Arthur liked men. Or rather, Dream Arthur wasn’t afraid to admit it and act on it, unlike the real one who was at that moment probably engaging in some adorably awkward flirtations with Ariadne and definitely not staring at some hot waiter’s ass. Definitely not.

  • 20th Century Boy by danke_george
  • He’s certain that she’s enjoying it. He wasn’t sure at first. After all, Ariadne is kind. Compassionate. But then she started snapping a rubber band against her wrist and glancing at him after every hit with a look on her face that said, “I’d rather be hitting you.”

  • One Tequila, Two Tequila by paradise_loved
  • At the time, Ariadne knows she should have told Eames that she and tequila had a very interesting past. Her first night with tequila had ended the morning after, waking up in just a bra in the dorm room of a boy from her drawing class.

  • My Chemical Romance by downwardlinear
  • "Well," Ariadne said, staring at some spot behind Eames. "I don't know about younger or smarter, but he's definitely hotter. Jesus."

  • Rapid Eye Movement by dana_norram
  • It wasn’t really surprising. In this job, sooner or later they all fell off the edge, somehow.
