You're down to 15? That's immpressive! It's definitely not an easy thing to do to keep your negativity in check. The day we all spent at the Scottish Highland Games, I focused on seeing the "good" or "divine" in each and every person. It helped me stop focusing on my negative self-image, and it really helped me enjoy the day even more. It was not easy, though. I'm happy to hear that you are trying the 8-fold-path. I know that structure and purpose are important in your belief system, so I hope you find what you are looking for with Buddhism.
Also, it was funny to read that you are married to Jess. I know what you meant, but it made me laugh =)
I like the idea of trying to see the good in others. It has become a bad habit of mine to do the opposite; I rejoice in the fact that I have judgemental faculties, as it helps me in my vocation, but I've warped it into negatively affecting my personal thoughts.
And yes, I should proofread my posts a bit more for errors like the one you pointed out.
oh, and I really know what you mean about the "tapes we play in our head" that are just there on auto-pilot based on our patterns and upbringing. I made an actual tape for myself with my own voice containing positive thoughts and affirmations to help curb my negative self-talk. Negative thoughts of others are a reflection of negative self-talk and vice versa.
