Wei and I are thinking about moving to London, and buying a very small house in the orbiting suburbs. Any suggestions from anyone about how to gather information about the livability of areas online, to minimize foot-time in London? Equally, any suggestions about locations to consider?

Also, if you're commuting by train rather than tube, the Wikipedia pages for individual train stations are quite useful to work out availability.

There is the book "London for Londoners", which contains descriptions and information about different London boroughs. I don't know how far out it goes, but it is quite interesting and may be useful.
