1. If you want to be interviewed, leave a comment here.
2. I'll ask you five questions.
3. You'll post the answers on your own blog or lj, along with these rules.
4. If anyone replies, asking you for five questions, you'll ask them.

1. From whence did you get the name 'the fibber'? (And exactly how it came to you, and when.)
It is interesting (to me, anyway) that the source of my internet name is only now readily apparent to other people on the internet despite the fact that I’ve been the_fibber for ten years now. The fibber (or the FIBer to give it’s original form) was a reference to a comic strip I draw called Fish in Black (now on the internet! http://www.fishinblack.com, yay! Advertising), and I chose to use when I was creating an e-mail address. My earlier e-mail/usernames always used my name to various degrees (and sometimes, in increasing desperation firstname.lastname.22.gig@myemailaddress) and I was looking to come up with an e-mail address that was different. So I decided on the FishInBlack-er, shortened to the FIBer, and finally to the_fibber when my e-mail provider didn’t accept capitals and becase the fiber sounds like something beneficial for the bowel. The name stuck and I use it for most things now. I’m quite amused by the fact that I have an eBay username with 100% positive feedback called “The Fibber.” I am amused.

2. What is the worst and best thing about fandom (rather than fanfiction per se)? (You're allowed to make this up, I will just say hmm, rather than argue.)
The best thing is the devotion and sheer imagination that comes out of fandom, I think the collective ideas of fandom could befuzzle and amaze the original authors. Also unity and team work, as the movie Serenity, the resurrection of Family Guy, Sam & Max, Futurama and cheesy nuggets at Red Rooster have proved, can be very powerful indeed.

I think the worst thing is that there are certain areas of fandom, that once they’ve thought of an idea, are extremely loathe to let go. Whether characters are gay or not is for some reason the most vocal I have encountered of these, I have read posts from fans who have gone out of their way to construct elaborate reasons and arguments for why a certain character is secretly gay, while dismissing evidence such as “the character frequently sleeps with women” as circumstantial.

An interesting example of this type of thing is Ridley Scott during the making of Blade Runner. Ridley Scott got in to his head the notion that Deckard was a replicant, which is a “neat” idea, but actually almost totally impossible in the story. Nonetheless the director persisted, putting all these random little clues in which make certain areas of the plot ineffective and just plain weird.

3. If you could re-watch just five epsiodes of the West Wing, which five would you re-watch?
1. 20 Hours in America (counts as only one episode)
2. Noel
3. Take the Sabbath Day
4. Let Bartlet Be Bartlet
5. The Long Goodbye

4. If you live in any fictional world, which world would you live in and why?
I was initially going to say “The World of Swallows and Amazons” but decided not, 1) it’s not really fictional and 2) I’m a bit too dependant on technology. So I’ll say I’ll live in Aaron Sorkinland, where everyone is that cool and funny and speaks brilliantly and intelligently.

5. What is your favourite place in/part of Melbourne?
I think it’s Carlton. It’s kind of the hub of my existence, and it’s got a book/dvd store, great coffee, my church, my job, and lots of patches of grass to sit on. Don’t really need much else.
