I know what you mean though, my brother will always be 24 to me no matter what and my parent's will always be in their 40's no matter what. Silly mortal time counting.
On a random note, tonight I'm attempting to make the ginger chicken I always order at the Vietnamese place... Perhaps I'll even try for an avocado smoothie some time.
Should be yummy. Especialy now that you won't have the chilies of death. I don't think I'd ever be so daring as to try to make the avocado smoothie.
Last weekend I tried my hand at sushi. Sushi rice takes like 2 hours to make (washing, drying, boiling, steaming, vinegar stuff, more drying)Plus my rolls were a bit big, loose and the fillings were off center. Callie was there, she can attest to it. Sushimen make it look soooo easy! I also picked up some bento supplies. I'll get around to trying to make something.
That's so awesome, good for you! Yes, they do make it look easy (and the rice takes friggin' forever to make...) although I remember sitting at a sushi bar once when this chef was using a knife to cut up a vegetable (it was either daikon radish or lotus root I couldn't tell) and he carefully shaved it into one continuously long paper thin piece then began winding it into this beautiful translucent rose- suddenly he made a noise of frustration and threw it in the garbage! It had been perfect! That's when I realized that sushi must be a whole lot harder to create then they make it out to be...
I had the chance to get an onigiri mold (those triangular rice balls with filling and seaweed I love) in Atlanta but at the last second I decided not to, and that I want to learn to shape the rice by hand instead. This was probably a bad choice considering I'm a perfectionist but oh well- a fun challenge. So yeah, that's one of my summer goals. ~grin~ I wish us both luck! I'm sure with enough practice we'll be awesome!
