As for the movie:

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

I mean. The movie... just... I want to forget I ever saw it.

Remember back when Star Wars episodes 1 - 3 came out? All these Star Wars nerds were sooooo horrified at midichlorians and just episodes 1 - 3 ( Read more... )

I think it was around the time that Indy survives a close-range nuclear blast by climbing into a fridge that I decided, "Okay, this movie is not serious. I'm going to try and have fun with it anyway." Ultimately, that outlook didn't save my screaming brain cells, but it made the movie watchable.

It's more of an Indy-themed comedy than an action film.

Also, I too need to see Iron Man again.

Ahahaha. Well, I actually knew about the "crawling into a fridge" thing. Alas, even knowing about the fridge and all the alien stuff and whatnot could not silence my screaming brain cells, as you put it.

GOOD. The lower your expectations, the more I think you can enjoy it.

Although, hey, some of the friends that saw it with me loved it. : D

Hah! There were times I got the Peter vs. Chicken feeling, too, but I still enjoyed the movie (though I don't know if I'd say I loved it). I guess, for me, when things got too weird or silly? I just reminded myself that Indiana Jones is a man who has (among other things) seen a man get his heart magically pulled from his chest and not immediately die. His universe has special rules!

For me, it wasn't so much the action sequences that disappointed. It was more...hm, I guess I'd call it an issue of pacing. I felt that the action was too unevenly distributed, to the point where you'd have nothing but a bunch of exposition for a very long time, followed by a HUGE BLOCK of action that would take a good half hour or more to get through. It killed the tension and did a lot to make the action seem even more over the top than it had to be, I think - for example, the sword-fighting-on-cars thing? Fine on its own, but when combined with all of the machine guns and punching and ants and monkeys and cliffs and rivers in the same single ( ... )

I think I would've enjoyed the movie, too, but the alien thing just ruined it for me.

Oh, it wasn't the action scenes that were the particularly disappointing things for me. In fact, I enjoyed the action scenes more than anything else in the movie. The action was the best part of the movie, IMO.

I agree with your comments about the pacing... and that the movie was pretty! : D

I actually just saw Iron Man today and was going to see Indiana Jones tomorrow. thanks for the tip-maybe I won't be too disappointed now. i mean really, aliens? In an Indy movie? It should just be old religious artifcats, enemies with ridiculous accents and natives which have no connection with reality chase the heroes through a jungle/desert.

Wow.
You're the first person to COMLETELY agree with me.
I found the movie stupid, and the aliens ruined it for me,
The jokes were corny,
The fake town=what?
I wished I saw Prince Caspian instead.
