So. Yeah. I was going to hold off until Saturday. BUT, PREDICTABLY, I CAVED.

RAMBLING REACTIONS:

  • That was pretty much pure awesome. IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN I WAS EXPECTING. WOOOO.

  • So like. The biggest chills were from how BADASS KATARA WAS. I looooooooved just how her waterbending stunts got crazier and crazier even as she was getting more and more ( Read more... )

And then there's the fact that the bloodbending was just so... UNDERSTATED? Like the camera and the squishy noises drew extra attention to it, but Katara showed no remorse; Zuko gave her nervous looks, but no one said anything about it. And that made it all the more scary 'cause... well, they made such a huge deal of it in The Puppetmaster, and yet here it's not?

QUOTED FOR GREAT JUSTICE! SO, SO TRUE! <3

SOKKA AND AZULA BOTH WITH THEIR HAIR DOWN IS MAYBE TOO MUCH HOTNESS FOR ONE EPISODE TO HANDLE?!

I VERY NEARLY COULD NOT HANDLE IT! SHE USED HER HAIRPICK TO KEEP FROM FALLING TO HER DEATH!

TOO MUCH AWESOME IN ONE EPISODE!

AZULA'S SUCH A GENIUS. SHE'S A MAD GENIUS, BUT A GENIUS. <3

VILLAINS THAT ARE TACTICALLY BRILLIANT ARE FULL OF WIN. AANG IS KIND OF A TRICKSTER HERO HIMSELF, AND THEN YOU'VE GOT AZULA WHO'S GOT IT ALL: POWER, LOOKS, SMARTS, AND EVEN CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Oh, Azula. <3

I never thought this would happen, but I'm so glad they decided to air the final six episodes in quick succession. Sure the wait was terrible, but if I had to wait a week between this episode and EIP, I just... I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO?

"I'M ABOUT TO CELEBRATE BECOMING AN ONLY CHILD!"

The fight between Azula and Zuko was SRS EPIC BUSINESS. He actually walked RIGHT THROUGH her fireball barrage, RIGHT UP TO HER, and SMACKED HER. WIN.

I am so, so stoked to see how this show will handle the issue of killing someone who is identifiably evil and needs to be killed. The entire series has been leading up to this point, and it looks like it's all boiling down to whether Aang will have the moral courage to take a life in the name of justice. This episode looked at one side of the issue (forgiveness), and within the next couple of days we're going to see another side.

And if they do take the stance that I'm hoping they will, how are they going to pull that off on Nickelodeon??

See, there's the rub--you're relying on Ozai to die by his own stupidity. I can't think of a single time in the show where he was portrayed as stupid.

You're certainly right that based on what we've seen of Aang so far, he'd rather not kill Ozai. But how is that going to solve the world's problems? If there's a single person on this show who's beyond redemption...well, besides Azula...it's Ozai. If Azula is "crazy and...needs to go down" (Iroh), what are we to think about her dad ( ... )

Well, like the trailer mentioned spirits attacking. What if there was some kind of pheonix spirit of the comet or something and it ended up killing him? And what if he doesn't even die? What if he becomes humiliated and chained up?

I'm not speculating any of those things - but my point is that lots of things can happen other than Ozai dying by his own stupidity, or even DYING.

As for the rest of your argument: I actually wasn't arguing that killing Ozai would be bad or that it would be better for Aang to spare Ozai. I was simply saying that the SHOW is going that direction. And you totally have the right to disagree with the point the show is making, or think it's cliche, or think it implausible.

Aang was understanding enough to let Katara go on her journey, yet wise enough and loving enough to know pretty much exactly what would happen.

That saying about the two headed cobera snake. about vengence poisoning you as a side effect?
Im sure bloodbending again felt like poison to her.... I think thats what that scene was meant for, i just wish they had more time to explore it.

Exactly... Aang did exactly what a mature, loving person would do in that situation to help the person he cared about.

Exploring some of these psychological issues more (like the thing you mentioned) is yet another reason I wish the show was longer.

OMG the Kataang really wasn't all that sekrit. I didn't even think of that at the end! Zuko telling Aang to go check on her

Hahaha yeah, it wasn't sekrit at ALL. It was as blatant (or perhaps EVEN MORE BLATANT?!) as the Sokka/Suki tent sex.

I guess what I meant was that it was somewhat unexpected for an episode purportedly in the same vein as the previous 3 eps, which focused pretty much exclusively on Zuko + the Gaang member.
