Only incidentally. It's mostly just life and growing at different rates even if not in different directions that does this. Being away at college just accentuates the sum-of-little-changes that causes this/results from this.
OK, not "just"--being apart usually impedes the "growing together/staying together" thing. But still, it's mostly the being apart and living separate lives. It's depressing, so it's better not to think about it. Unless you're growing apart from people you can't stand, in which case, you can rejoice ;-)
