Fnac's Photography Marathon

Jul 09, 2011 23:07

I didn't know that such thing existed like a photography marathon so, I gave a shot and tried it!

And I must say, it was an extremely tiring day that gave sore feet for almost a whole week (it's sounds like a slogan xDD) but what a great photography day!! I'm most definitely going next year and not on my own, I'll drag every wanna-be-photographer I know xD
The competition had six themes to be explored, extremely vague themes to be precise, all of them where excepts from portuguese poets and writers so there were multiple interpretations and that made it complicated to win one of the three prizes they were offering. The prizes were EXTREMLY appealing: 1st prize was a SLR professional camera, 2nd prize was SLR pro/amateur camera and 3rd prize a SLR amateur camera. (If you're wondering what SLR means, it's the term for those big cameras that you can change lens and they look all pro... when most of them are not ^^;) And above this, they were all Canon cameras so yeah, I wanted to win xD it didn't happen of course, there were 300 participants and many of them were pro and many others were taking the photography course and did photography their whole life. The minute I arrived I knew I didn't stand a chance but I still took the opportunity to develop skills. The day was a photographer's day! Since the competition was from 10 am until midnight we had all the kind of light to take shots (except the sunrise of course ^^;) and above that it was sunny most of the day and in between it seemed that Armageddon was about to hit us and it rain down really hard! Anyway, I did a selection and here it is! I hope you enjoy ^^

One of the first and I dunno why, I really like it but it doesn't have much potential ^^;

The modern "Elétrico" as we call. In english, the tram ^^

When I saw this coffee shop it instantly reminded me of London because all coffee shops have tables by the window like this one and it's probably the only one in Lisbon.

This is the kind of photography I hate. I always feel like I'm taking advantage of people's poverty to make art, for me it doesn't make any sense. Still I took this picture because the small kitten is eagerly waiting for a snack ^^;

Now these are the good old trams! Too bad I took this photo in B&W ^^;

Down comes the rain! It wasn't raining too hard at this time of the morning but it gave a good picture! Now, a true photographer would take all those flags away, that pillar over there would disappear and I'd have to reshape the kid, I'd take all those people on the background too... no, I'm not a true photographer xD I like to use the excuse that I'm a purist photographer xDD

Rain stops, photographers go out! xD

This poor russian guy that was playing the accordion was freaking out with so many people taking pictures to him ^^;

Now this was the Armageddon! Good thing I was on the subway xD

Still, I had a deadline to keep... two hours for each theme.

So, with no umbrella I decided to take a run too ^^; Of course I ended up wet from head to toe but the sun take out and it dried me up xD

After running around almost through the whole city, I decided to take a break and I took my shoes of. No, I didn't care if the floor was dirty, I had my socks on so I was perfectly alright with this xD

Nop, not responsible for the empty bottles.

Genuine portuguese are curious, beware!

Lisbon's viewpoints are usually beautiful and their always full of people.

Germans like beer. What they don't know is that their beer is extremely weak when compared to the portuguese beer. Of course when they come face to face with our seven hills combined with our beer they can't help but to get drunk and do whatever they can to keep standing xD yep, she was about to fall thank goodness her friends were nearby or else my new camera would get its first kick ^^;

The night was about to begin.

As I said, experimentation!

And here's the last one, I liked playing with the lights at night but during dinner I met some of the competitors and I ended up experimenting very little ^^; I've got tons of pictures from this day, this is almost a random selection, I'll update some more on DeviantArt. I hope you enjoyed it, next year there'll be more! ^^

Seeya!
