Goes without saying, doesn't it?

Copy this sentence into your LiveJournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

I get so many god damned Prop 102 flyers in my mail it makes me sick. "PROTECT MARRIAGE FOR YOUR CHILDREN AND YOUR GRANDCHILDREN" it says.. what happens if my kids, or my grandkids end up gay? EPIC FAIL!

You know... I am all for Gay/Straight/Multiple unions with ALL the protections and privileges of the traditional "marriage". But I would never want a law making a church recognize a marriage for anyone.

Keep church and state separate! Semantics suck, but personally I'd rather have a civil union (or something) license than a marriage license than set a precedent for interference of federal law into church doctrine.

I've always thought that you should change your belief, rather than change doctrine. True, we still need to get same-sex couples the same benefits of "marriage", but lets fight that battle instead of fighting the church.

In my case, I interpret the implied protection as coming making a government office a makeshift pulpit.

There are plenty of churches that make it plain enough how it would rule, but that is why the division needs to be there. A couple doesn't have to go to a church that does not agree or recognize them. A bit harder to pick up and move to areas that recognize at least the union and provide equal legal rights, particularly in times of hospitalization or court matters.

A legal recognition of a marriage between gay men or women should be just as valid as those Las Vegas weddings on a whim. Opinions of the unions and whether to recognize them as an actual marriage should be left to the churches.
