Prompt - Southland, John/Ben, John teases Ben about looking like that kid from The OC.-----
"I do not."
"Yes, you do."
"No. I. Don't."
"Are you kidding me, Richie Rich? It's separated at birth territory."
"I do not look like the kid from The O.C.!"
"You keep telling yourself that, boot. No one's gonna believe you didn't climb off the TV screen and crawl into a uniform as Officer Ryan Atwood."
"Just drop it, Sir," Ben muttered in a warning tone that he knew wasn't going to do him a bit of good. No, he didn't actually expect John to drop it; that would be asking too much. Once John Cooper had an idea in his head he was like a pit bull. He just didn't let go. Pulling the squad door shut behind him, he sat and waited for the teasing that bordered on harassment to begin anew. It had already been a long week.
"Face it, Spago," John grunted as he eased himself into the driver's seat. "The only difference is the hair cut."
Ben chose to let this comment pass, setting his lips in a thin line as they got rolling once again, chasing the radio. He avoided doing anything that would attract his FTO's attention, focusing instead on being a cop. That usually silenced Cooper and it placated Ben as well to let his eyes sweep over the streets watching for the out of place and those in need. His concentration on the job was complete enough that it took the errant thought a few blocks to surface and it leapt to his lips before he could censor it, turning to favour John with an amused yet perplexed scowl.
"What the hell are you doing watching The O.C.?"
If his question threw John at all, the senior officer didn't even flinch. He flicked on the indicator to make a left turn, shoulder checking even as he shrugged off the loaded question.
"Insomnia."
Ben narrowed his eyes, already wise enough in the ways of his FTO to know two things for certain.
One, that was all the answer he was going to get.
Two, his week had just gotten even longer.
