The Dog Days of Concert Whoring Starts Up Again!

Another lengthy entry, but you KNOW you wanna click on the LJ-Cut thingie...

Friday night, I headed over to Joe's Pub for the first of two Josh Kelley acoustic shows. Definitely fun times, as I was joined by Julie (fresh off her tour managing stint for Julian Velard), Stacey (fresh off of doing the Merch stint for Akiva), Ashley and Emily (coming in from PA), and Danielle (flying in from Ohio).

For the first time at Joe's Pub, I sat at a reserved table and had dinner there. It was somewhat decent. But no matter, as Josh did his thing for about an hour.

Josh came out w/ a three-piece set that included Dave Yaden on piano and Jason Gambill on guitar. For the most part, Josh had a bit much to drink (bring out the SoCo!), and confessed that "Lover Come Up" was a song about getting a blow job.

Josh did make his way to the piano for one song, "Almost Honest." He also covered Radiohead's "Karma Police" and provided a set featuring songs from all of his albums as best he could.

Early Saturday afternoon I joined Stacey and Julie as we were killing time before heading over to Asbury Park, NJ (you don't wanna visit there). We even got some time to lay out on the grass at Central Park. Well, they were, as the two were dead tired from not resting due to showing up for Josh Kelley's TV morning show appearance. I just decided to stare at the sunbathers wearing bikinis...

Anyhoo, late in the afternoon we got on the PATH to Jersey and caught up w/ Kristine, Rachael, Lucinda, and Sarah and hung out at Kristine's place before it was time to go. Let's just say Kris' dogs were quite happy to see visitors and MySpacing it dial-up style was fun!

From there, it was off to Applebees for some dinnertime fun, as I hide behind my Guinness, but couldn't dodge the "Mint Tingle." Oh boy.

And then it was time to head down to Asbury Park, NJ, a place that seemed more ghetto than Georgia Avenue in DC. Nevertheless, we got to The Saint safely as we joined Ashley, Emily and Danielle as they were selling Will Hoge's merch.

First off, Danni is my new hero. She's a big fan of both Will and younger brother Josh Hoge, was probably in some of the same shows I was in recently, and she let me place my bag behind her chair at the bar! She's such a sweetheart!

Anyhoo, Will came out around 11pm or so and started off one helluva kickass set:

The Man Who Killed Love
Better Off Now
Let Me Be Lonely
Sweet Magdeline
Woman Be Strong
Rock and Roll Star
The More That I Know
Money (That's What I Want) [part of the house music prior to Will's entrance]
July Moon
Van Halen's Jump (feat. Russell the Tour Manager)
Wait 'Til Your Daddy Gets Home
All Night Long
Lover Tonight

encore:
Silver and Gold
Hearts Are Gonna Roll

As always, he was raw, dynamic and full of energy from start to finish. I swear, see him once and you'll be begging for more.

Oh yeah, the big highlight came when Jefferson Crowe broke out the first few notes to Van Halen's "Jump" and Russell, Will Hoge's Tour Manager, ran up to the stage to sing a bit of that song:

And the other highlight came in the end, when Danni and her friend choreographed a dance to "Hearts Are Gonna Roll,"

After the show, the crew got in a group photo w/ Will:

Dammit, Siggi! OK, here's Take 2:

Much better!

As we were leaving The Saint, I had to take a picture w/ Will's Tour Bus. But before I posed, Will yells out "TAKE YOU SHIRT OFF!" I refused to grant his request as I posed for my pic w/ the tour bus:

Sunday, I was stuck in the city, but Stacey gave me a concert call during Will Hoge's set and I almost cried. Will Hoge was singing "Bible vs. Gun" at that moment. It's only my FAVORITE Will Hoge song EVER.

Monday I sprinted out of work again to meet up with the crew for the second of Josh Kelley's acoustic shows. The set was pretty much the same, except Josh was sober and somewhat more reserved (he didn't want to reveal the meaning behind "Lover Come Up" again, but Dave Yaden called him out on his reserved-ness), and he even attempted to do Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy."

The highlights didn't so much involve Josh, as it were my tablemates almost stealing the show (at least for me), singing along and even almost dancing along...

The fun carried carried over after the show when we hit up Sing Sing on St. Mark's for karaoke action. From Hanson to Josh Kelley and even some 'NSYNC, we did 'em all...

My voice got shot after that session! But dammit, that was a fricken good way to end yet another good run of shows.
