Anyone who's house has been on fire or who knows people who's house has been on fire that can tell me what kind of thing is welcome from strangers? Because the family across the street's house is on fire, and I sort of want to get them some form of sympathy gift ( Read more... )

Huh. I think food would be good, anyway. Unless they've lost a lot, in which case something Useful would be nicer.

No, things seem fairly controled. The only fire I saw was through a second story window for a few minutes, but during the whole ordeal they hung out in the garage a lot, and at the end of it, went back inside for the night. Their house dodn't go down in a blaze of unspeakable magnitude, though they probably have at least a few hundred in property damage.

Oh those poor people.

I'm not sure what sort of gift they would need. But obviously something they need. If you don't know what they need then some money to help them get what they need themselves.

I think the mere gesture of your concern would be appropriate enough. I cant imagine loosing my house, must be a terrible experience.

on a side note, just because i didnt respond soon enough, i thought the post about the kitten you found was rather sweet ^_^

They did not lose it. The magnitude of the reaction by the fire brigade was much more severe than the situation required. Losing a house would be dreadful, though. A whole life's worth of mememtos and posessions is a lot to have to start over.

You should come meet the kitten. She is about Mitie's size, and smelly. : D

So long as it's not cooked for too long, you should be fine with that.
