EverCrack, Technical Writer, Nerd Lovin', LotR theme parties, ahoy. I don't usually vote for folks with short academic sections - because I am an academic nerd - but you went to FanFaire, and you are definitely hot in your nerdiness. I vote yes.
Must ask, as always - which server(s) on EQ, and what's your main/favorite character?
I'm on Druzzil Ro and my main is a cleric. I've only been playing for about a year, so my main is only lvl 43 (almost 44). i also have a 29 BST and a 10 bard that I like to play. I love the cleric because I can sit back and chat while I play.
As for my academics...well, it was a while ago that I was in school (6 years), so my work is more a part of my life right now, but I am planning on going back to grad school in the near future. Just can't decide what for. Either Information and Library Sciences or something where I can study the cultural implecations of the internet (sociology maybe?) and international communications.
Agreed fully on being a Cleric and the typing freedom it gives you. My main is a 54 Cleric on Firiona Vie, because I am a l33t RPer. *snicker* I also play a Mage, Druid, and Pally on other servers when bored of the Clerical gig.
Oh, and I understand completely, not everyone has the same kind of nerdiness - nerd diversity is a good thing. And if you're interested in Internet and Culture stuffs, may I suggest studying Communication? I'm getting my MA in Communication Theory now, with a focus on online communication and communities. I'm probably writing my Master's Thesis on EQ. ;)
The guild I'm in is a family guild and quite funny. Check 'em out Rutabaga Paradox. I've never done the actual RP-ing thing, but I've toyed with the idea of checking out Firiona Vie.
Here's another cool pic from the Fan Faire. It's the sign that was all lit up on this nightclub SOE rented out for us. Open bar for three hours! :D The Beach
On the education front, I have thought of communications, too. My major was technically a communications major, so I had a lot of classes in interpersonal and international communications, which were always my favorites. Also, as part of the technology slant of the major there were classes on technology's impact on society. Things like "Land and the American Experience" "Technology and Religion" -those were my second favorite classes.
You should pop out on DruRo sometime, if you're bored. I have a baby mage that can play with you. :) If you do, look for Dewwe...that's my main's name.
Reading your application, I get more of the geek vibe than the nerd vibe, but working as a technical writer gives you enough of an academic aspect to qualify. I think it's really awesome that you've managed to make the things you love a major part of your life and that you've connected with so many "like-minded souls." You're definitely not ashamed of what you are, and that's what we're all about here. Yes!
I think the general consensus here is that a nerd is more academic/scholarly than a geek. For example, somebody who spends all his/her time in a science lab would probably be a nerd, but perhaps not a geek.
You had me at "Dawn of the Dead". When I first saw the preview for it, within a few seconds I whispered to my moviemate, "holy crap, they remade Dawn of the Dead!" before the title appeared.
Plus you're just generally hot and nerdy, so yeah! :)

For the record, I did check out the "hot geeks" community on LJ, but I liked this community better (sshhhhh!).

I'm brainy and loved school. Just haven't been there for a while (see my comments to ravenscanary for more info on that and my academic aspirations.
