It wasn't as if Sarah had never been on a date before. It was just that, little though she cared to admit it, the vast majority of them had been for one cover or another, and there had been absolutely nothing ordinary about dates with Bryce, their guns at the ready, knives drawn more often for fighting than food. Nothing at seduction school readied a girl for this. With a cover date, she knew what to ready herself and preparation was simple.

This wasn't even the first time she'd tried to go out with Chuck and still she found herself waffling over what she was supposed to do or wear, getting nervous, albeit pleasantly so, way too far in advance. Turning up at his door in the dress she'd settled on - dark blue, simple, something to look nice in but still casual - she knocked, a smile already starting. "Chuck?"

Okay. Here went nothing.

Chuck took a deep breath before crossing the room to open the door. At its basics, having dinner with Sarah wasn't something Chuck hadn't done before. They'd done it tons of times. But making dinner, and being in his hut wearing a collared shirt...this was...okay, it was really different.

He opened the door.

"Hey," Chuck said, one corner of his mouth turned up to grin, the other following just after, "You...you look great."

Theoretically, intellectually, Sarah knew she did. Her looks had always been an asset in her line of work. In truth, though, she never really felt it so much as when Chuck said so.

"Thank you," she said, a hint of shyness in her smile as she stepped inside. "So do you."

"What? This old thing?" Chuck said, and laughed a little nervously. Dinner. It was just dinner. He'd had dinner with Sarah lots of times.

"So! I hope you're hungry. Because, despite the suspicious absence of dinner, there actually is dinner."

His hut was a little cleaner than it usually was though, mostly because he'd spent the better part of the day freaking out.

That and realizing that he couldn't possibly find all of the bugs that Casey had hidden in his hut.
