The Ladies of Mandigyn- Barbara Hambly

Loved this. Ladies being active. Ladies driving the plot. And it was written in the early eighties? How is this book more progressive than some fantasy coming out now? I’m not saying it’s perfect, there were a few things that bugged me but overall, it was awesome. ( spoilers? mabye, kinda sorta? )

lol. Most of Hambly's early stuff was generally "Ladies do awesome things. Sometimes there's a mage or two that hitches a ride. Also, HAVE SOME WORLD-BUILDING. And it's probably REALLY COLD."

(I prefer the Windrose stuff, if only because Joaaannaaa and Kyra. Also, one day, I would like to go back in time and interrogate my younger self about what my initial impressions of Silicon Mage were, as they were entirely different than they are now, as I'd not read the first book at the time)

That is good to know. Because LADIES BEING AWESOME. It's amazeballs. I just want to throw this book in the face of GRRM fans and say, this is how you do a medival fantasy where women are second class citizens and rape is fairly common and not have it coming out like a stupid RAPERAPERAPE fantasy.

BWAHAHAHAH. ahahahah. Yeah, I've never been impressed with GRRM, and never ever will be. I'm sorry, I'll be in my corner re-reading some Barbara Hambly, and wishing it wasn't so bloody cold in all her books.

Also, if you ever read Dragonsbane (old married people fight a dragon), I recommend never reading the sequels.

Yup. I mean I like the HBO show mostly, but you'll never convince me to read the books. I tried the first one thanks. It was not my thing. So I'll be over there in your corner with you.

I haven't. Or at least it doesn't sound familiar right now. But I shall keep that in mind for future reference. Thanks.
