Where have all of the anime movies gone?

In a recent set of conversations about having an anime film premiere at the Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival, or MIFFF, something was noted in my head. One-shots I liked recently (yay html edit tweak, heh):
Paprika (2006, US 2007, Madhouse)
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006, US 2008, Madhouse)
Sword of the Stranger (2007, US 2008 w/ dvd/br next month, BONES)

Haven't seen (so no "great" review yet), but The Sky Crawlers (2008, US 2009 w/ dvd/br just out this week, Production I.G) looks interesting (though possibly too digital for my tastes)

AnimeNewsNetwork has a tweakable movies-only searches (link is the most recent 200). Can also check on "OVA" for the non-theatrical ones.

Instead of "creative slump", it's likely more a "marketing boon". Original movies are one-shots with unknown/untested market; movie 7 (example) from series X has a known and tested fan base (market).
