I feel like my life's mantra is "Do you have your Borders Rewards card? It's our free frequent shoppper program where you can earn exclusive discounts and 5% rewards".

I can't wait until summer, so I can finally use my vacation time >.<;

I work in a Waldenbooks in Chicago. I've been reading comments about Borders Rewards, both from booksellers and customers. Although the "loyalty program" is only a bit more than a month old, booksellers are as bored with it as customers are thrilled. So tell me, all you customers out there: why do you think it's so great? I have to promote it, but I don't GET IT!! Sure, it's free, but what's so great about the so-called benefits??

It's kind of stupid, really, in a way. The coupons are the same as our old e-mail coupons, except you need a special card to make them work. The only way it's really worth it is if you spend more than $200/yr (which is.. well, probably only the employees >_>) and you can actually get your 5% back crap.

The most annoying part of it though, is all the old people who look at you like you have fourteen heads when you ask if they have an e-mail address. E-mail was a bad idea.

Thanks for a great laugh! Yes, those dear old souls who seem to love the Borders Rewards spiel (it's free) 'til you get to the e-mail part -- "but I don't have that, so you mean I can't get anything after all?" The company that designed this program (Brierly + Partners) needs to work on that bit.
