Duo passed the woman, Grace as she stopped just fifty feet from the shed, and he headed towards it as directed. He moved quickly, but in near silence, taking trained and careful movements towards the shed. He had no idea what he was getting himself into here, but he was curious. He dug the whole 'science thing' once and a while, having taken into a few hair brained experiments in school and in basic training. Still, his work in the garage had become stale, and his flight training on hold, he just couldn't find it in him to motivate himself.

So, closer to the entrance, he sauntered in and leaned against the entrance, smirking. "What's up, Doc?" Some how, it felt appropriate.

(So far, so good,) Will thought. After the perimeter alarm had gone off, he'd stood up, set the flywheel aside, and waited for whoever it was to show up. Whoever was damn near silent. Will was impressed.

A teenaged kid leaned against the entrance of the shed. "What's up, Doc?"

Will grinned. At first he thought the kid new who he was -- who he'd been on Earth. Better to play it safe, though. The kid could just be a wiseass.

"Not too much," Will replied. "Not yet, anyway." Unlike other social interactions, this he could manage. He'd learned how to handle himself when in authority. Right now, Will held all the cards. "I'm Dr. Yates," he said, sinking into one of two folding chairs. Will motioned for the young man to take the other. "You are?"

Wise ass was probably the better choice term here. Duo straightened himself and walked to the chair, sitting, so he could let his arm rest against the back, informally. He liked staying casual, even with his superior officers with the Air Force.

Duo took a moment before answering, observing the room, what Will had been working on, what the over all room was used for. His expression displayed nothing more then curiosity. He focused then on Will and gave a wry smile, "Duo Maxwell."

The kid glanced around before answering. He seemed relaxed and curious. Will wondered what he was hiding, if anything. No matter how hard he tried, Will just wasn't good at reading people. Thankfully he was good at maintaining his confident, in-charge persona.

"Good to meet you, Mr. Maxwell." Will leaned forward slightly, keeping his hands relaxed and in view. "As Grace has told you, I'm occasionally in need of services. Too many ventures and experiments running for me to keep up with personally. Grace has been compensated for observing subjects, delivering goods, and above all, being discreet. Would you be interested in such an arrangement?"

[Some time after Duo has left...]

Dexter smiled and thanked Grace politely as they stopped just short of the shed. Stuffing his hands into his pockets, he strolled in with a loose, unconcerned gait, with only his eyes darting back and forth betraying his caution. He was completely unsurprised to see Will had been expecting him.

"So," he began, keeping near the doorway and shifting his feet shoulder-width apart, "You weren't kidding about the whole mad-scientist thing, huh?" He nodded toward the flywheel assembly. "Such a nice day, and you're sitting around here instead of frolicking out in the sun?"

Will did a double take upon seeing Dexter in the doorway. A forensics guy was looking for money on the side doing possibly questionable things? Dexter was the closest thing Will had to a friend in -- literally -- the whole world. He couldn't don his Dr. Horrible persona with Dexter. So now what ( ... )

"Build things, huh?" Dexter noticed Will's brief hesitation - there was no way that was the end of it. But then again, Will didn't seem like the type of trash he was used to dealing with.

It seemed like he'd caught Will a bit off-guard - Dexter moved onto the meatier part of his explanation. "Sounds like you don't have much love for the people in charge," he said, trailing off into an uncomfortable silence. He then sat back in his chair and kept his eyes on Will, waiting to see if his discomfort would drive him to keep talking.

Dexter seemed to take Will's explanation at face value. Emphasis on "seemed." Why did someone smart, who he liked, come calling? The shallow, greedy types were easy to deal with.

"Sounds like you don't have much love for the people in charge," Dexter remarked.

"At this point, no," Will replied honestly. "I mean, we've been here over a year. Half of the colony is like the dark ages. No plumbing. No electricity. Plumbing, yeah, that's a huge endeavor, so I'll cut them some slack there. But there's no excuse for lack of power. After all, what part of the colony is the most wired? Gatetown. Surprise, surprise. *I* have electricity at my place, but only because I've worked my butt off to get PV and wind-driven devices set up. You would not believe the hoops I've had to jump through to get some of the materials.

"I won't live in a ren fest because Weir and company are taking care of themselves before sharing with us plebians. If you want to work with me, you can reap the benefits, too."

Warren wasn't the first to arrive, nor was he the last. The little chit that worked for Dr. Horrible* wasn't as smart as she thought she was. Or maybe I'm just smarter, Warren thought as he kept himself concealed in the shadows. It had been easy enough, child's play really, to push back and needle around to get a bit more information from the woman. Horrible wasn't the only one that had feelers, it just happened that Warren kept his closer to home base. His superiors required it that way ( ... )

Will is calling himself "Dr. Yates." No need to correct. Let's pretend that Warren had used that name all along.
