This is a mix for the absolutely fabulous "Our Year Out of Time" by the equally fabulous
pjvilar .  You can read the story here - and you should read it before you read the liner notes below, because they are chock full of spoilers.

Disc 1 - The Quiet(er) Ones

"Have a Little Faith in Me" - John Hiatt
when your back's against the wall
have a little faith in me

"Alphabet Town" - Elliott Smith
i'll show you around this alphabet town
i know what you are - i just don't mind

"Impressions" - Jarrod Gorbel
get yourself in these predicaments
come undressed as the equivalent
a lesson learned, pain well deserved

"Losing My Religion" - R.E.M.
that's me in corner, that's me in the spotlight
losing my religion

"Something's Got to Give" - Beastie Boys
there's something coming to the surface

"Come On Up To The House" - Tom Waits
well, the moon is broken
and the sky is cracked

"Road" - Nick Drake
you can take a road that takes you to the stars, now
i can take a road that'll see me through

Disc 2 - The Loud(er) Ones

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Nirvana
i feel stupid and contagious
here we are now - entertain us

"Broken" - Pennywise
i've been used, been abused
i've been bruised, i've been broken
and i'm backed up against the wall
but my will to survive can't be stolen

"Orphans" - The Gaslight Anthem
goodbye, fairweather home, and your faithless factories
i have given you the blood and the truth
from the wounds they laid onto me
and whatever they left, well, i kept it for my own heart

"Burning Down the House" - Talking Heads
no visible means of support
and you ain't seen nothing yet
everything's stuck together

"Shape of Things to Come" - Diodes
and there are new thoughts
ready and waiting to explode

"White People for Peace" - Against Me!
bureaucrats enraged in debate to try and reach a resolution
the people sang protest songs to try and stop the soldier's gun

"Hold On" - Lou Reed
you better hold on - something's happening here
you better hold on - there's a riot in tompkin's square

B-Side

"April 29, 1992 (Miami)" - Sublime
April 26, 1992
there was a riot in the streets
tell me, where were you?

The Works

Disc One - The Quiet(er) Ones
“Have a Little Faith in Me”
To me, this is almost the building calling out to Nate at the beginning of the story - but it also applies to so much of what holds Bravo2 together.

"Alphabet Town"
Brad and Ray have such an interesting relationship in this story - and during the first spring - Brad’s spring - when they’re getting to know each other, I love the acceptance they have for each other.  Ray’s a drug dealer, Brad’s an emotionally messed up guy and it doesn’t even matter.  They can just be.

"Impressions"
Pam dies, and Ray...well, Ray never really gets over it.

“Losing My Religion”
Nate Fick, losing his shit on the roof.

“Something's Got to Give”
Nate, realizing it’s time for something to change.

“Come On Up To The House”
Brad and Nate aren’t always the best of communicators.

“Road”
The aftermath.

Disc Two - The Loud(er) Ones

“Smells Like Teen Spirit”
I debated with myself a lot about putting this here - on the one hand, this is such a New York story and Nirvana is such a Seattle band. On the other hand, it’s the perfect song for Brad at the beginning of this story.  Brad won out.

"Broken"
This is Ray, to me - a kid who hasn’t been above 14th Street, with a list of Fucked Up Shit to Do Before You Die.

"Orphans"
Brad’s been broken up with by not one but two people - he’s pissed, he’s hurt, and he’s heading into the city.

“Burning Down the House"
I love the idea of the crew rebuilding the house - it's such a wonderful image in my head.  And it definitely is the thing that sticks them together.

“The Shape of Things to Come”
I wanted to capture some of the tension of the story - it's not just between individual characters, but in between different groups, and the city as a whole .

“White People for Peace”
This one is all eviction attempts, all the time.

"Hold On"
I mean, really, you have to ask?  This song is literally written about the Tompkin's Square riot, the basis for this whole story.

b. side

“April 29, 1992 (Miami)”
I would have included this song in an instant except it is so clearly about L.A. and not NYC.
