I'm watching the repeats of season one on ION, and I previously posted about Dr. Ray Mercer's appearances being cut out. I was curious how this was going to be handled, since he's got some pivotal scenes, especially in the latter part of the season.

Dr. Mercer finally appeared in episode 9, Inside Man, in which a couple is murdered and their son,

It seems idiotic to cut out Ray. I don't even know why they would do that...he's pretty important for season one and esp nearer the season one finale when Toby relies on Ray for answers. But I guess it also shows the writer's complete fail in how they just disregarded the season one plotline in the other seasons. And now season five is the final one, and they've still barely touched on Toby's past. They're leaving it to the series finale, I think, which doesn't give me confidence we'll get a proper resolution...

I can't tell for sure if they were cutting for time to put in more ads or plot by removing Ray and reducing the mystery of Toby's past. They may have trimmed things in other seasons, but it's just not as noticeable as a character who was supposed to be in 7 out of 13 episodes and not have him appear at all until episode 9.

I didn't realize it was the final season, but I guess it make sense now that they're doing call backs to season one after ignoring it for years. What have they got to lose? On reading the press release, it does sound like they're going to do a Big Reveal in the finale. It could be good or cringe worthy. Maybe somewhere in the middle.
