I believe you meant the reader being able to understand the native language script but for me, it took on a whole new meaning! My browser just substituted the fonts with those unfriendly looking squares, rendering the message unreadable even to a person who could have understood the language! For the record, I'm using Iceweasel on Debian Etch.
Thanks RP! After an 'apt-get install ttf-indic-fonts', I can now actually see what Sasi sir has written. Pity I can't do an apt-get install malayalam-literacy onto myself, at least not quite as quickly! I can now at least identify with Sasi sir's friendly warning which did seem rather hostile when the text was all boxes!

Wonder why your setting does not show the fonts...

PS: if there are question marks then the browser didn't even understood the character encoding.
