My dad died (late 30s) when I was 13! My son's dad died (45) when my son was 11! Such a weird theme in my life! But anyway, I cope with dead dad jokes too!

Oh that's definitely a weird theme!!!

In high school, the girl on my left lost her dad in 8th grade. I lost mine right before 9th grade. The girl to my right lost hers in 10th grade. Definitely a weird block!

Humor is sometimes a great way to cope with things or we might go crazy without it. Sounds like we have quite a bit in common. I'm Alex and I live in south-western Germany. I garden and preserve my harvests, also love baking bread and cooking. My most recent posts are a little unusual because I recently lost a beloved cat to kidney illness, but I don't go on and on about it and there'll be happier posts henceforth. I'm also a person of faith, but also don't go on and on about that either. I'll add you so you can take a look at my journal and if you'd like to add me back, you're more than welcome to.

Germany! Yes, added you back!

The loss of an animal is never an easy one, so talking about it makes total sense. In January of 2020 my parents had to put their dog down, my brother Otis. It was absolutely awful, and I don't remember if I wrote about it much, but I definitely talked about it in person a lot.

I'd love to know what city you're in in Germany, if you're comfortable sharing. We're going back next year for 3 weeks (Rheinland, München, and Nürnberg are where we're thinking, Rheinland being the only new destination).

I used to live in Mannheim. But in 2017 I inherited my grandmother's house and property in a tiny village in the district of Kusel (the village has a population of around 200 including the neighboring municipality). Totally rural, as rural as it gets. It includes a large garden, hence the passion for gardening and food preservation.

I'm sorry you lost a pet! I know, it's absolutely awful, so you have my deepest sympathies. :(

That's so cool! We'd love to move to Germany one day, but it doesn't seem possible. Are you anywhere near the areas I mentioned visiting?
