letter from UO

May 01, 2008 10:13

"While we are rarely in a position to offer financial support upon entrance to the program, we are pleased to offer you a Graduate Teaching Fellowship (GTF) for 2008-2009 due to your outstanding record and the excellent match with your interests and the research interests of our program."

Rock.

Yeah, seriously! Of course, it means I may end up hating the world because I'll be teaching my first year of grad school...but I'm pretty much resigned to stress-induced misanthropy anyway. And it solves a LOT of my financial worries. They waive tuition and give you health insurance and a stipend.

I am so excited! I was kinda worried about funding for the first year, so this is a BIG plus.

They're on the quarter system. They start in late september - another plus, as it means I can go to burning man!

I want to ask you about TAing at some point. How do you like it? does it make it harder to juggle getting your work done? Thoughts or advice?
