I worry about prattling on about my hobbies. Yet someone once laughed at me for feeling self-conscious about rambling in my livejournal, so fair's fair. Also, damn. How could you not think that wood is pretty cool? Look at this piece of quilted maple:

That's really neat!
However, it's also messing up my friends page layout. Could you make it a little smaller or behind a cut?

do you know how one would go about affixing it to a gypsum wall?

a simple nail with clear fishing line is all i can think of. any better ideas?

but nails + gypsum = suck. :(

Mmmaybe you should look into what are called concrete hangers. I've used them to hang things in cinder block walls, which also have a tendency to crumble. They look like this:
