Dinner:Breakfast Room:Moon/Luke/Ellie

Mar 22, 2005 17:46

Ellie walked away from the Extra Cafe, past the Main Cafe, and into the Breakfast Room. "We really ought to rename this Ellie and Luke's eating place, this is where we always seem to sit lately, at least, you anyway," she teased, setting her plate down on the bigger table. It would make sense for a few other people to join them, there were like ( Read more... )

Moon felt a hopeful feeling surge through her at the light touch, but it was simply Luke and she tried not to look disappointed as she realized this. He began talking, leading her away from the crowd, and Moon hadn't realized how tense she was by the surrounding conversation until she was out of earshot, a slight breath releasing and the nervous tension letting go of her stomach. "Thank you, that was nice of you," she told Luke simply in response to his concerns, she didn't think it rude of him at all actually. How many times had she been the girl who had cooked and served the others when she was with the Traders? Most nearly every night, even when she'd felt ill, or tired, and more than once she'd been flung around by Joe for taking too long by his count.

No, do not ruin dinner by thinking of him, push him from your mind, he is not here, you are not there, and this is not that kind of place, she reminded herself, following Luke away from the cafes and into the Breakfast Room. Giving Ellie a soft smile, Moon took a seat at one of ( ... )

Moon was a quiet type and he'd come to learn to take her at face value, listen to her but hear what she was saying between the lines, and her words made him relax, leading her to the Breakfast Room. He was glad she was not upset, he had overreacted maybe, he should trust Ellie to know what was best, he just felt so nervous. Something about Moon compelled him to make her, what? Feel better? He hardly knew her, and he never knew what she was thinking, so what was his interest ( ... )

Ellie sat down as Moon did, putting her napkin in her lap and picking up her fork, taking a bite. It tasted almost just the way Ellie remembered, only, back in the previrus days, it had beef, or mutton, in it, but it still tasted almost just the same. She was pulled away from her nostalgic memories by Moon's quiet voice, licking her lips to tell her that Alice had prior commitments, when Luke interjected. Giving him a nod, her head tilted to the side as he trailed on, then stumbled to pick it all back up and fix what he'd gotten out wrong ( ... )

Moon didn't understand what Luke was trying to say, or why Ellie was suddenly laughing at him, outloud, seemingly unable to control her giggles. It dawned on her as Ellie joked about Moon being a princess, or even a queen, and she smiled shyly, looking down at her plate. At least that had been a good ice breaker, and she felt the tension of eating with someone she didn't know too well, and Luke, easing off a bit. "Or perhaps the scullery maid? Since he seems to enjoy my cooking and cleaning skills so much," she was feeling a little cheeky, a first for her in a while. She instantly felt bad for it, because Danni wasn't here, what an odd realization.

Besides, it wasn't nice to laugh at the expense of others out in the city who weren't eating as well as the Mall Rats. Moon understood that they couldn't bring everyone inside the Mall and feed them, but she couldn't help to feel guilty when they ate so well despite kids out there still starving. Survival of the fittest Moon, you just have to come to terms with that, some will die, it is ( ... )

Ellie had appreciated the joke about hanging out at the Mall, and the conversation after that had been light, a lot less uncomfortable than when they'd first sat down. Moon was enjoyable company, still rather quiet, but not at all off putting. As their dinner plates became empty, the conversation dwindled, and the yelling and shouting from other rooms was hard to ignore. It escalated to the point that a scream was heard and then a thumping, it sounded like someone fell down the stairs. "Did you two hear that?" Ellie stood up and put her napkin on the table, hearing Ebony ask for help for Tai-San. "Tai-San?" Alice's voice floated up from the first floor, and Ellie looked at Luke again, "Oh, Alice," she felt horrible. Ellie knew how Alice cared about Tai-San, they were like best friends, was she hurt? Was she ...no.

"E-excuse me," she moved around the table and to the railing to look down at the scene below. "Oh..Tai-San...oh no," Ellie didn't know what to do, should she go down there, should she stay up here, should she get someone? ( ... )

Luke was just as shocked as Ellie looked, looking to Moon speechlessly, blinking as Ellie excused herself. Standing up, Luke looked back down to Moon, "I, I think I should go after her. Alice and Tai-San are very close," he explained, "I, I, I," he didn't know what to say, it was rude to leave her here, but if a fellow Mall Rat was hurt, Luke wanted to do what he could to help. He'd taken first aid courses in school, he could help if they needed it, yeah that was the real priority here. "I'm sorry," he finally told her before walking away from the table.

Walking up to Ellie, Luke put his arm around her before looking down at the scene below. "Oh wow, Ellie, I think I should go help," he said softly, rubbing her shoulder softly. Jay took control of the scene downstairs, talking loudly up to everyone, asking them to stay back. Now Luke was in a hard place, and all he could do was stand here and watch, his arm comfortingly around Ellie, waiting.

Out of the corner of her eye Moon had caught a glimpse of someone who seemed to be so familiar walking through the Extra Cafe, but when she turned her head to look, no one was there. The people in the Extra Cafe were sitting, and none of them were walking towards them. Blinking a few times and shaking her head Moon dove back into the conversation, though a bit less sociably than she'd been planning to. Everything still felt kind of awkward, but the conversation seemed to go well, at least, Moon thought so ( ... )

When everything concluded, Ellie felt only a tiny bit better because it seemed as if everything finally got under control after a bit of bickering. Salene had not impressed Ellie with the way she'd handled it, but Ellie liked Salene, they were friends, and she knew that when someone needed comforting, Salene was the best. Watching her comfort Alice had made Ellie feel comforted, that and Luke's arm around her shoulders. Jack had come round the corner of the railing before quickly retreating, and Ellie looked to Luke with concern. Jack was quickly forgotten, however, as Tai-San was hauled away, and Ellie still felt like she didn't know what to do ( ... )
