The Hospital: Patch

Apr 11, 2005 00:40

Coming back from the bottom of the stairs, Patch tried to put the thoughts of insecurity to the side just long enough to get everything set up for when they brought in Tai-San. He could do this. There wasn't even much he needed to do! Get a bed ready, get some smelling salts or something, try to wake her up...it was all he could do! Unless he ( Read more... )

Dax had been ashamed of himself for not noticing Jay's hands, trying to take control of the situation without being observant, what was wrong with him? he was there to take direction, not to give it, and he hadn't even thought out what he'd said or else he would have known better than to suggest Jay help. Beating himself up over that, he simply kept quiet from there on out, avoiding confrontation. More anger from someone else over Dax being Chosen would only make him feel worse, and when Salene gave directions about Tai-San and the backboard, Dax quietly followed, helping lift the rather light girl onto the backboard ( ... )

After making an incredible ass of herself once more today, Salene entered the hospital and stopped to look around. It was mostly empty, one kid was still passed out in one of the beds, and of course Tai-San with Alice hovering was in another. Dax was stood near Patch who was frantically searching through medical texts, it was all just such a mess. Why did she feel such despair and defeat over a few set backs today ( ... )

Hawk came downstairs from the Extra Cafe and entered the hospital quietly. What a hectic day this was turning out to be! He didn't want to interfere, and the doctor was thumbing through books frantically while Salene and Dax stood over him, watching, talking quietly. Hawk moved across the room to Tai-San where some girl was hovering over her and, well what she was doing, Hawk wasn't entirely too sure. He stood back a bit, more next to the bed beside Tai-San than at her bedside, observing her, not wanting to interrupt the quiet vigil Alice seemed to be holding ( ... )

Everything seemed to take on a life of it's own, as soon as Alice had demanded that someone go and get a backboard, it had almost immediately arrived, or maybe Alice was beginning to black out and lose track of time. Salene told them how to put Tai-San on the board, and if Alice hadn't been annoyed with Lex and the way he was behaving, she probably wouldn't have been as annoyed with Salene as she had suddenly felt. It was irrational, Salene was their leader, and a good one, and a good person who knew what to do, but it still just rubbed Alice the wrong way ( ... )

The room was alive with movement, concern, emotion, it made Salene's head swim, couldn't they go two hours without any huge drama?! "It's ok Alice, Haw-" she began only to be cut off by Lex. Giving him one of her lopsided comforting smiles, she nodded, Hawk knew what he was doing, Salene wouldn't interfere with it, and she knew he wouldn't hurt Tai-San. Ellie entered shortly thereafter with Luke, and Salene was glad, if anyone could calm Alice down it was Ellie. Of course, if there was any reason Alice would become more hysterical it would be because Ellie was there, they were good at getting each other pumped up over issues, but Salene trusted Ellie to comfort right now. She was good at that, this she knew personally ( ... )

Hawk was not concerned with the people around him, it was a natural reaction for people to get hysterical over the ones they loved being checked out, but Hawk was confident in what he was doing, and he trusted certain people to trust him back. It was actually a surprise when Lex himself stood up for him, suggesting that he did things like this all of the time in the woods. "No, Lex, not really, we rarely have serious head wounds in our Tribe," he said solemnly, not thinking about what he'd said before he let it slip ( ... )

Alice didn't take comfort in knowing that Hawk probably did this "all of the time", and then he retracted that and said that he rarely did this. How did he know what to do then? "Well stop touching her," she got out before Ellie was there, her hand on Alice's back, and the tears just streamed down her face silently. "Oh Ellie," she squeaked out, "If I had, if I had tried to eat dinner with her, I should have kept my eye on her, I was her bodyguard all that time ago, I'm a horrible friend," she spoke in whispers, feeling somehow personally responsible for this ( ... )

May smiled at the squeeze, noding at his words. The place did seem to be filling up fast, with the addition of Luke and Ellie. It was strange seeing those two together again, and not to mention Jack with that Anna girl. She was watching Hawk and Patch look over Tai San. It was interesting to see how they worked. Medicine was a tricky subject for even the best of trained. Of course, had it been before the Sickness, she would have been cat-scanned or something. It was funny how much technology this had, and yet so little. Her attention was diverted by Salene’s words. She couldn’t help but smile. “Well, that was very nice of you Salene. Thank you ( ... )

Slade carried Ruby into the hospital, "I need a doctor, you have a doctor, don't you?" Now his voice had picked up a panic, and he barely noticed that people were congregating around another girl, or that there were people in other beds sleeping. He simply carried Ruby to a bed halfway down the room and set her down gently. A girl came over and flitted over her, touching her here, feeling her pulse, and Slade just took a step back. Was this girl the doctor? She turned and explained she was simply a volunteer, that the doctor was busy with someone else, but that he'd be with her as soon as he was able to ( ... )

Salene heard Hawk and Patch talking about Tai-San and what to expect, what they could do for her, and then her hand flew to her mouth as Alice sunk to her knees and cried to Tai-San, begging her to wake up. The emotion flew through the room and Salene felt it tightening up in her chest, pressing her lips together with worry. She couldn't stay here, she had to go and take care of things, she was exhausted, and she couldn't bear to see people this upset, to see Tai-San so pale and near possible death, but she couldn't leave either ( ... )

Lex stood close to Tai San amongst all the commotion. He felt deep down that she'd be ok, but it still didn't take the fear or concern away. He felt like he had already lost her once, he didn't want to loose her again. Lex made a promise within himself that he would have that conversation with her when she woke up. It was just something he needed to do. Lex picked up her limp, unmoved hand and held it in his. He whispered as quietly as he could, "Get better quickly..the tribe needs you here..I need you here."

Lex dropped Tai San's hand the minute he noticed strangers entering the hospital. Immediately he jumped to the defense. Both the girl and the guy walked in looking as though they'd been through hell and back. Lex's emotions were already on the edge of his sleeve through dealing with Tai San, so seeing new people didn't seem to make him any more pleasant. Who are these people anyway? They look like they've been through quite a time..what if whoever did this to them is still after them?..Did they put the tribe in danger ( ... )

Luke chewed on the inside of his bottom lip as Patch walked away and Salene explained that he didn't like to be crowded, Luke understood that, and so he simply put his hands behind his back and waited, rocking a bit on his feet nervously. Ellie was looking distressed, but Alice was in pieces, and he instantly stopped rocking, his right arm crossing across his body, resting his left elbow on his right hand and playing with the collar of his shirt. He didn't know what to do for them, but mostly he didn't have the time to think about it as a young man carrying a rather dirty looking girl came bursting into the Hospital ( ... )
