The Balcony: Danni

Apr 13, 2005 20:57

Danni reached the balcony and rested on the bar, letting her head drop as she took in a deep breath. She felt like she was going crazy. All this paranoia over Luke, why did she feel so scared of him destroying her life once again? As much as she knew that the city was now a different place from when the Chosen were here, she still had this ( Read more... )

Moon hadn't even slowed as she walked through the Mall, away from the Extra Cafe and into the Office Complex. Her feet were driving her straight where she'd been thinking about for a while now, the garden on the balcony. As she pressed the bar on the door that led outside she could smell the wet earth, and then the sound of rain hit her. She tried to get her eyes to adjust to the darkness so she could see if the balcony was wet, but it seemed to have some kind of roof over it, at least, if the wind wasn't blowing too badly in this direction she'd stay dry. Oh, was it even worth it to sit on the balcony if it was raining ( ... )

Danni had become lost in the rhythm of the rain that had begun to fall. She looked over the balcony and watched the ground as the droplets fell hard against it. She felt the rain suited her mood perfectly right now. She would cry, but she had felt like she had shed enough tears today. She didn't even know why she had cried now, all she knew was that without Moon here she felt a great ache and a great sadness, and the rain described that perfectly. She felt like maybe she should go and soak herself in the rain, if only to feel the cold, the sensation of the droplets again her skin. If only to feel something different from this melancholy that she felt right now ( ... )

Moon felt gentle fingers on her arm, they felt cold even through her sleeve - how long had Danni been out here? - and Moon stopped walking, although she did not turn around. Not yet.

"Don't go."

Moon stood up a little straighter, but still she did not turn around, fearful of what she might see in Danni's face, of what she might say next. Danni had been avoiding her, that could not possibly bode well. Moon listened to the ever increasing sound of the rain as she waited to hear her fate.

"I've... I've missed you... this evening."

Surprised, Moon finally turned around. How did that make sense? People did not usually avoid those they were likely to miss. Meeting Danni's eyes, Moon could not help but feel that she could see sadness in them that Danni was trying to hide. It confused her, filled her with questions, but her lips spoke only one.
"Where were you?"

How could Danni explain to Moon where she had been? It didn't make sense, her irrational jealousy, her fear of messing things up. She would sound like a complete freak if she tried to explain to Moon why she had done a disappearing act. She would have to say something though, perhaps she could tell a little white lie? Moon looked genuinely concerned though, which meant that she probably knew that something was up. She would have to include some sort of element of truth to her story ( ... )
