The Matrix: Path of Neo came out yesterday, inexplicably on every format except for the GameCube. There are two big selling points behind this game. The first is the obvious one: You are Neo, and you get to play through the entire trilogy. Anyway, then you have to fight giant Smith. Once you beat him, Neo wins and gets to go home alive. And then we cut to the celebration at Zion, where the assembled masses are together in the church, singing - I shit you not - Queen's "We Are The Champions."

honestly, i doubt this was the intended ending for the trilogy, but if you think about it, it IS a perfect ending for a Matrix video game. the whole thing with the matrix is how aware of itself it really is. it is aware that it is a movie, in the sci-fi/action genre, etc... and so it is only appropriate that a matrix video game would be aware that it is a video game.

it makes me think of the old Mega Man games, where you beat the last boss, only to have ANOTHER last boss, 10 times as big, come after you.

Oh no, it was not the intended ending of the trilogy. They said it was a new ending for the trilogy made for the game. That's the point.

I don't think that it would've ever been okay or made sense for the characters in the films to admit they were in a movie. No, no, no.

Like how in Jay and Silent Bob Strike back, one of them asks who would pay 5 bucks to see a movie staring them, and then they all look into the camera.

It's still pretty funny.
I'm inclined toward the "fuck you" theory. At least it sounds like it's intended to be relatively funny. That's cool, I guess.
