Ignorant Fish - An Independent Chapter

Dec 31, 2011 16:05

Happy New Year everyone!!! This is a small chapter written for the McT's - a few years ahead of where we left off. Devyn and Donovan are almost five, and Danielle is three. No pictures this time, but there will be next time!

Warnings: Ignorance, poor social conduct, and improper terminology for people with a hearing disability.

Loved when Claire called her (or thought of her as) the devil incarnate! That's about where I was with Ms Klineman at that point as well.

I've taught a couple of deaf children and it's just not the big deal Ms Klineman is making it out to be. They sat up the front, wore hearing aids and I wore a headset with microphone when I was talking to the whole class and tried to stand directly in front of them when I didn't have the mic (outside, for example). I've had worse problems with hearing students, I can assure you!

It would be nice if people could give others a chance before writing them off. Different issue but this chapter reminded me of a story that was in the news here several years ago. A couple tried to enrol their daughter (who had spina bifida and used a wheelchair) in a private school for kindergarten and were told the school couldn't handle her needs. They ended up sending the kid to the local public school and she thrived.

I never expected Ms. Klineman to have garnered such a strong reaction with everyone!! haha. I'm glad that little girl with spina bifida was able to succeed in the school she did end up with. Thanks for sharing that!! :)

Happy New Year Carla!! :)

I was totally ith Claire, and man she had such a right to be as pissed off as she did. Heck, If I were Claire I'd go a step further and go public on the internet about why this school wouldn't accept Devyn! ugh! I'm sure Claire and Colton will find a school that could help nurture all of them.

Great writing though, you managed to get us in there with the emotions.

thanks Mela!! I didn't expect to get such strong reactions from people about Ms. Klineman, haha!! I'm glad I was able to convey her rudeness though, especially with such a short piece. It felt so good to write again! I've had such a busy two months... I haven't felt like I've been able to breathe until today :) So glad you read it!! Thank you thank you :))

Happy New Year, Christ! Hope the holidays have been going well :D

My God, what is wrong with that woman? Someone needs to tell her just where she can shove that non-refundable application fee >:(

And yet... as someone who actually attended private school at one point, some administrators (not all, but some) sadly do see things that way. They can be baselessly elitist and not at all political correct. The school I went to was a "Christian" school (quotes because they didn't really act like it, in my opinion), and LGBT rights were the hotbed issue at the time and some of the staff were... um, not exactly great at keeping their opinions to themselves. My gay friend was bullied mercilessly and the school never raised a finger and the principal once outright told my class that he was concerned that the government would start making him hire "homos ( ... )

VANNNNNNNN!!! ^_^ Thank you, I hope the holidays have been good to you, as well!!

"Someone needs to tell her just where she can shove that non-refundable application fee." <---- this made my night. xDD

I...don't know if I could have stood your school, to be honest :S Especially with students getting bullied and the administration not lifting a finger to do anything about it. That's just awful. :(( My heart goes out to your friend. I hope they are doing well now.

The thing with the kids feeling immune to everything because of daddy's check book and mom's community service...yeah. They're everywhere...and apparently an unfortunate cog of adolescence these days. Government aid in Covena/Edanomella is much like Canada's, actually. I've long thought the government aid/health insurance policies in Canada are far better than those in the US... so I wanted to include that for my make-believe place :)

Haha I love long ranty-comments!!! No worries!! :)) Happy New Year to you!!! <33

I'm excited to read more! I can't wait to see those kids grow up...even if they are only sims lol I just love the pictures

Ms. Klineman...where do I begin? I was horrified that she would say something like that, it's heartbreaking, really. She is purely ignorant, and sadly there are a lot of people like that out there. I'm glad that Claire refused the offer, heck, anyone would! Luckily it was only preschool and kindergarden, I mean, it's not like it's a huge life changing factor, but I fear Devyn may be persecuted by people like Ms. Klineman in the future when things aren't so carefree anymore, which is really sad considering this happens a lot in real life.

Can't wait to read more! I love the McT's!
Happy New Year!

thank you!! The kids will have plenty of pictures, don't you worry!!

Yes, sadly there are millions of people out there that think the same way as Ms. Klineman. It's ignorance, and a failure to want to learn differently.

Thank you for your kind comments!! Happy New Year to you!! :))

Happy New Year, Christi!

What a wonderful chapter, and I was right there with Claire (and everyone else)! That woman, who I don't think deserves the title of educator, was absolutely ridiculously bitchy. Watching her catch herself before saying "normal kids" was probably the worst part. I was about to get up on my soap box- DEVYN IS NORMAL! :P

Quick question: if you answered this I clearly missed it and should be taken as blind, but is this marking a permanent time jump in the McTs, or after Christiana/Carlos are resolved are you bringing us back to an earlier point in the kids' lives? (I.e. just a little bit later, I'm assuming, than where you left off at the hiatus.) Either way, looking forward to whatever you write next! :D (And funny enough, I was just thinking last night: "I wonder when Christi will update next, I miss my McTs/SL chapters!")

Happy New Year Kelsey!! :) I'm glad you liked this chapter! It was definitely one I wanted to showcase, so I thought what better time than to do it now, in the beginning of the year, and start myself off right! haha.

Actually this is the beginning of several time jumps. The next one(s) will be a few years ahead of this, and then when we finally meet back up with the McT's it will be when the twins are teenagers. All of my plot lines begin there, and I don't want to drag the pace down more than it has been.
