It was one of those evenings when Reno actually was home. He had a lesson plan to work on, and, while he was certain that he could just wing it on Monday the way he usually did, having a co-teacher now meant that he had to at least make the attempt to justify the activities that were being thrown around class, for... good judgment, and academic value, and all of that shit. Hell if he knew, he was just the one standing in front of the room, pointing people at things.

The smashing sound in the other room wasn't altogether strange to hear. Not in an apartment which housed two hyperactive mammals and a duck. And the pets, too. And so Reno was ready to give Petey a swat to get him off the coffee table or whatever when he walked into the room, to see...

... Ah. Not Petey, then.

He didn't even bother with words. Not just yet. Right now seemed like a good time to just step up and put a hand on Rikku's shoulder.

Rikku ... jumped, slightly, having not heard him approach. She didn't look up, but she turned, slightly, shoulder trembling under his touch. It was reassuring, and somehow, him being reassuring was making it harder for her to hold everything together. "H-hi," she said, weakly. "I, uh, I didn't .........."

Was Petey around here? She could blame it on him, maybe.

She didn't want to.

"S-sorry," she said. "I'll ... clean it up. J-just a vase, right? You weren't ... all that ......... fond of it, were you?"

The vase might be an important family heirloom. One she'd bought at T&C for like five bucks. Therefore, they should discuss it.

"I ain't never been all that fond of flowers," Reno replied, offering her a small smile. It was... somewhat weak, so far as Reno's smiles went. "I'll get over the vase."

He glanced toward the shattered glass on the floor, and then back to her.

"Sit, babe. I got it."

Rikku nodded, biting her lower lip. "No, I ... I can ... really," she said, sounding a bit more like herself, if forced. "I mean, you're ... busy, doing stuff, yeah? I don't want to ... b-bother you."

And yet, as if her body wasn't listening to her mind, she went over to the couch and sat on the edge of it. "Being stupid," she said. "Sorry."
