I have kept most of Child's baby books; the idea was that he could eventually enjoy reading for himself familiar things he's heard 108,000 times. As he has a lot of books this doesn't mean he is bored ( Read more... )

Oh, good - I'll be really glad if one of the uses for this community is the recommendation of children's books: I'm a big enthusiast.

Much better than the marriage woes and sex observations I was pondering bringing up...

Oh, sex and marriage may well be OK with our moderator!

I'm intensely keen on children's books - not, I hope, in an obsessive or twee way, but being at one with Spofford in some ways (you'll know The Child That Books Built?), Really Really Keen. Also very observant aboutthe illustrations. E. Gorey is for grownups, for example.

Disclaimer: I Did Not Learn To Read At Two. I did read early but didn't know I was reading, if that makes sense: I thought that what I saw ("that's 'wall'of course") was something different from what the grownups seemed to want me to say or recognise.
