Hmmm... seems that when the library said that they didn't have Tigana, they just meant that they didn't have it yet. It unexpectedly turned up on hold for me. I think I'm the first person to read it, too... it's in way too pristine condition for a paperback otherwise. So I guess I'll be reading it after all,

(And I hope it's not full of misogyny that I missed when I read it the first time because I was 17. ^___^ In all seriousness, I don't think it is -- I think it's fully of people making dumbquestionable choices, but I also think that the reason why they do it -- loss of identity -- is the whole point. I shall theorize at length later, most likely...)
