I scrounged two sweaters out of a bag a friend was sending to Goodwill (with her permission), and I'm wearing the first one today. It's a thin, dove gray cashmere crew neck, and it fits fine, but it's tight enough at the bottom to make it roll up, which is unpleasant. I think my desired look is "rich person who's so rich and cool about it, she doesn't have to flaunt her wealth with her possessions." So the name is good, but not flashy; and stuff is well made but classic to the point of being invisible. uglybass is a somewhat different size these days than of yore, so it was an interesting adventure exploring Icelandic sweaters together. We both liked the ones that are not strictly traditional--i.e., with fleece linings--but uglybass eschewed the ones made of traditional wool, or, in his deathless phrase, "with all those fuzzies hanging off it." He also liked the cardigan style, but we realized while shopping that Men In Iceland Do Not Wear Cardigans. (Why? Why is the cardigan considered unmanly there? It is a mystery.) To our thrillment, he found a sweater that was unfuzzy, fleece-lined, and made of traditional Icelandic wool in the least likely of settings ... the Keflavik airport.
Speaking of 80s damage, do you remember those metallic-threaded scarves? All the rage in Leeds. ALL. THE. RAGE. So unnerving.
