i'm not sure i understand this. is that a general definition of God, or is it simply a description of what he is currently doing?

or am i over-analyzing the first post i saw instead of going to bed?

It's a definition.

Though, the other respect brings up an interesting point.
It may do some people good for god to to tell them there are things they don't understand; but those people (in my experience) are not generally the people who ask.
I think that god is a very misunderstood figure.
I don't think that he's a dude who lives in the clouds and throws lighning bolts at people. I don't think he has super powers. I don't even think 'he' is a good pronoun for what ever god is. (though i could be wrong, i don't know)

I think that god is a search for understanding, that it does us good to ask, & that being godless, insisting that everything can be explained in a flat imeadieate manner is silly.

here i arrive at my one step definition of god for the godless.

well, that loaded gun is long and babbly. I can't spell or sleep; there's what you have of that.
