Good point about how people write this stuff off. It is possible to absorb without actually adopting wholesale or at all. There are a load of nutjobs but there is a wealth and history of teaching and questioning as well. But that can be hard for people with a securely rigid investment in one of the predominant status quos.
Interesting bloke is Neil Kramer...worth checking out.
