CONFIRMED: Ruud to Hamburg

Though there has been no player presentation or press conference, it seems pretty much certain that Ruud van Nistelrooy is headed to Hamburg. He hasn't traveled to Germany yet, but he underwent a medical with one of their doctors in Madrid yesterday. Hey, a free transfer worked for Michael Owen, maybe Ruud will have similar good fortune.

I know nothing of the Bundesliga or what kind of season Hamburg has had thus far. I can only assume they want more goals scoring. I hope he gets the playing time he needs, fits in well on the pitch, and most importantly, stays healthy!

I do wish he'd been able to sign with an EPL team, but I think most would have been struggling to pay his wages, as Harry Redknapp seemed to say was the case with Spurs.

I have to say that if this does turn out to be true I'm pretty pleased - Hamburg are 4th in the Bundesliga, so about the same level as Spurs, without being Spurs.... and lisse11 says they need strikers. Plus Joris is there and Rafael used to be, so hopefully he'll feel at home.
