This is one of those places where a bit of careful logic can remove the confusion.

Just because money can't buy you happiness, doesn't mean that an absence of money can't cause unhappiness. Nor does it mean that having more money wouldn't make most people happier via mechanisms other than buying the happiness.

The way I see it, money can buy or pay off things to reduce stress, and reduced stress is comparable, if not the same as, increased happiness. In other words, money can buy happiness, and to say otherwise is comparable to saying that 2+2≠4 because 2+2=2+2 and 2+2 is clearly not 4.

Don't agree. Very wealthy people have frequently demonstrated a total inability to reduce their own stress levels, because not all sources of stress can be bought off.

Can you name three sources of stress that are not worse with little to no money?

I think you're trying to argue something like that 7+7=14 is untrue because 7+7=16.
