The End Is Nigh

I've ported my LJ over to Dreamwidth. I won't be deleting my LJ any time soon because I have paid time until May 2018 due to credits from various LJ shenanigans. Of course, that doesn't mean our new overlords won't take that decision out of my hands or make new policies that make staying here untenable, but my LJ will likely remain until May 2018, ( Read more... )

Going to miss you, but LJ was my third move and here I stay.

Unfortunately, Facebook is one social media place I am not. But even though I won't be posting anymore, I'll still be checking my flist for as long as my LJ survives.

How easy is it to export everything over to Dreamwidth? I want to get off of LJ with its new ownership, but I have been on LJ for probably more than a decade. I don't want to lose those posts, but I also don't want to have to move things over one by one!

Very easy. You just go to the Import Journal page and click a few ticky boxes (after creating an account, of course).

The only issue is that it may take a couple of days for your journal to copy over. So many people are leaving LJ for Dreamwidth right now that the queue (as of last weekend when I did it) was 2 days long. I set up my LJ to port on Saturday and it finished on Monday afternoon.

I think the hardest part of the whole process was picking a new journal style and paring down my icons from 107 to 15 (I didn't opt for a paid account on Dreamwidth).

The page with the instructions and link to the Import Journal page is here.

Hey there! So I did finally move to Dreamwidth, but I can't figure out how to "friend" people over there. So find me! I'm samazon13 over there as well. :)

If you go to someone's DW page, there will be an option at the very top of the page to "add to your circle." If you click on that, you'll be given a choice to "grant access," which means they can see your flocked posts, and "subscribe," which means you'll see their entries on your flist. You can choose one, the other, or both.

Alternately, you can hold your mouse over someone's icon and the options to grant access and subscribe will pop up.
