I spent the first 32 years of my life in New Jersey. I make this statement, because it still amaze me that I might have to drive an hour or more, now that I live in Pennsylvania, to find things that were always so easily obtained in New Jersey.

I was looking to buy dry ice. My local Ice House does not sell it, and when I asked the nice gentleman ( Read more... )

I only recently saw 'Snakes' and I would kinda say no to that one. Esp. for the 6 yr old. The others I've not seen except for the Mummy series. Amythest has LONG adored those. I bought her the box set as a gift a year or two ago, actually. It has some gross stuff but...she's not one to be nightmarish about such things. It really depends? I mean...do the kids have nightmares? Are they susceptible to "ketchup"? Amy's known for a long time that that stuff's not real ( ... )

I remember when my parents first shipped us to the Poconos after living in suburban New Jersey since I was born my mother was frustrated that she had to drive at least an hour to get to the nearest mall. When in Jersey, it was only five minutes away so yeah, I know what you mean.
And no, I don't think any of those movies are appropriate for children younger that 10. Maybe "Hellboy" since it's kind of cartoony but still may be scary.

I took my kids to see snakes when it first came out in theaters. It terrified my daughter who was 5 at the time.
When we got it on DVD last Christmas, she insisted on watching it on loop to prove she wasn't scared.
Overall, they're probably too mature for the youngest kids.

I grew up VERY sheltered. Case in point: mom made us walk out on "Return of the Jedi" because of slave Leia.

I never watched horror movies as a kid, I never watched sexual/violent/scary movies.

So instead, I ended up being completely traumatized (to this day) by "The Picture of Dorian Gray".I was a very fearful child (no doubt in part from the violent horrors discussed with glee by my Sunday School teachers as well as an active imagination). My mind manufactured more twisted atrocities than HR Giger could in his wildest moments. I also found myself vulnerable to that sort of media as an adult. I can't watch scary movies, I had a crying fit for nearly a half hour in the bathroom after running out of "The Cell" (yeah with J-Lo). My skin, as they say, remained thin ( ... )
