*HUGS* Wow, I relate to this so deeply. This sounds so close to what almost killed my MIL in October 2006. (Kidney failure due to massive infection.) It was terrifying, and we were there. I can testify that in some ways it's understandable that they asked the out-of-town kids to stay put. Often there's so very little you can do, and everyone together worrying isn't necessarily a blessing.

Thank you, Echo. It's good to hear about someone else who has gone through a similiar situation with a positive outcome. I'm hoping to be able to update everyone by next week that he'll be out of the hospital.

As for being together during a tough time, mentally I completely understand where they're coming from, for as you indicated there's not much that can be done. Emotinally though it's not as easy to comprehend...Being empathetic, I want to be there to just be one complete unit so we can all just be together..Not that it would help stress levels, but sometimes having all the love in one room (instead of spread out alone all across the country) just makes everything more comforting.
