When dawn fell upon Princeton-Plainsboro, it was not the only thing. Outside the teaching hospital, a fierce wind kicked up and right where nothing else should have been amiss, something started. Something odd, something new, something strange.
Wind swirled at hurricane speeds, whipping into a circular area and then something opened.
It was like a window to a strange place, a circling mix of brilliant colors, like fall leaves and too many dimensions. It was a portal to other worlds.
And it had set up just outside the hospital for all to see.
No one could wander in, as though some shield protected it. And as quickly as it had appeared, it shrank and shrank until it was smaller and smaller, the diameter of a person, and it simply rested there outside the front doors, like a potted plant.
And there, it stayed.
