I very much enjoyed this story. You captured their different voices, and the push-pull heat that seemed to jump out at me in the series--without leaving their canon personae.

...but Simon imagined he and Malcolm were both stubborn bastards who always got their way. I love Mal's embarrassment at having to sink so low to get his way as to take money off a kid trying to save his sister. But enjoying the means of the gambit nonetheless.

In the thick of the action, I was a little distracted by wondering how you were going to deal with the nonrecognition issue later, but you resolved that believably. And when I think about it, Simon's reactions in the pilot are completely consistent with being in the know. I think of Mal as highly observant, so that was the harder part of the interaction, but I bought your explanation.

Thank you! I agree, one of the most difficult parts of the story was at the end when I had to figure out what to do about the 'nonrecognition' thing, as you put it. I'm still not entirely pleased with it, but I'm glad it's at least believable.
