Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure that once this saga is over no matter what decision I make, I'll get back into the way of things (I've already got ideas for a competition I want to enter) but this place really can kill your love for something.
My parents said maybe I should 'take a break' from 3D stuff, and personally I think that's a terrible idea. I'm hating it just now, if I take said break I may never return to it. What I need to get my enthusiasm going is a fresh project, a fresh perspective and to allow myself to have some fun again.
Like we talked about last night, with SFX try not to let this course kill your interest in it, get your5self some books and tutorials, start collecting magazines etc and teach yourself. I mean, it's not like you're going to miss all the valuable help you got at Uni is it? :P
It's tough, but like you say is it worth it? I think you should do what makes YOU happy and not anyone else, as at the end of the day, it's your life =).
Besides, I know how it feels, I never show it, but if I'm ever bothered by something or anything, I find it impossible to write creativly. So all this stress is zapping yours away from you and thats not good, don't worry about how long something will take, don't worry about time restraints and the rest of it. (Obviously Uni Deadlines don't help) But if you decide to stay in Uni, might be a bit more work, but make two copies, one you love to play around with and master to perfection. The other, something to pass with.
Like I said, thats an idea if you decide to stay with Uni. But best of luck in whatever you do, and you won't be letting any of us down =).
It's not that I don't want to do 'a bit more work' it's that I've been doing work constantly for the past couple of months, and even if I keep pushing on I still won't have it done on time (or it will be ass, either or). I spent far too much time on a certain class and I spent far too much time on the small things. I was constantly doing work, and because of that I didn't realise I wasn't really making progress. :\ I suppose Uni is where you're supposed to make your mistakes, and I've made my fair share of mine.
When you have something worth suffering for, you will make your own path regardless of what other people do or say. You love your art, and you're willing to suffer for it so you'll have no bloody trouble making money !
You should do what makes you happy and dont worry about what over people think. Like you say you dont care about the course or grades and its killing your passion for the work you love to do. And you have other opportunities out there.
Maybe you should only limit yourself to 2 hours of uni work a day or something then come the end just hand in what youve got done. Have you talked to John at all about this?
All the best, just let us know if I can doing anything to help man.
Cheers bud. I don't think 2 hours a day would cut it lol. And my issue with that is that my only reason for doing this is to hand in something worth showing, and if I'm not doing that then I'm just wasting time I could be spending doing something worthwhile. Truthfully I already have one resit, and I'd probably need to add SFX to that list, hand in the rushed project a week late and get a crap pass with average work, with further work through the summer further prolonging all of this.
An online friend of mine wants to start up a gaming development website, an evolution of our old (and rather large) RPGMaker community we used to head.
woah woah woah wait a second. are you saying that you and your friend created RPGMaker?! :O!!!!!!
As for the rest of what you said re: uni, it sounds like you've kind of made up your mind. If you leave now, will you still be credited for your degree, but just w/o the Hons?
