So apparently both my gmail and my Swatmail were abducted and used to send spam? This came to my attention when I logged in yesterday to find 100+ "Mail Delivery Failure" messages clogging my inbox and my spam filter. Today my Swatmail spam quarantine had a similar number of similar messages to report. Apparently this just happens sometimes and I ( Read more... )

The only thing I can think of doing is changing your password. But I don't know how much that will help.

I feel like it was a one-time thing... I think they managed to generate my email address rather than actually hack into my account.

I suggest just waiting it out... my Penn email account and my other account have both been through that, and it seemed to die down eventually. I don't think the password is related; the spammers just fake the reply-to line.

Fortunately it was a problem for maybe two days and then stopped. I'm more irked than actually concerned that my account has been compromised. Gmail help said something about spammers randomly generating email addresses, so I guess mine just came up?

or if you've ever posted on a discussion board that is archived somewhere on the internet, your email address can be copied and used...
